Boykin played Division I baseball at the College of Charleston, playing first in the Southern Conference and then Colonial Athletic Association his senior season.

2014: Boykin hit .233 in 45 games (28 for 120) with three home runs and 17 RBIs. Had .359 on base percentage but struck out 29 times. Served as primary backup catcher for the Cougars when not serving as the designated hitter, but threw out only one of 11 runners trying to steal.

His C of C bio reads: 2013: Played in 56 of 57 games as a designated hitter … hit .268 with 16 doubles and 28 RBI … recorded a career-high three doubles and two RBI at Elon (3/9).

Before C of C: Played catcher at Nation Ford High School in Fort Mill, S.C. and at Spartanburg Methodist Junior College in Spartanburg, S.C. ... named to all-region team his sophomore and senior years of high school and to the North-South All-Star team his senior year ... made it to the Junior College World Series at Spartanburg Methodist and earned first team all-region honors ... maintained a .331 batting average at Spartanburg Methodist.
