Afenir is a left-handed hitting outfielder from California that attends Kansas and patrols centerfield for the Jayhawks. In his second season with the Jayhawks, he batted .288 in 19 games (17 starts). In a utility role, Afenir had a great ability to get on base and put the ball in play. In 66 at-bats, Afenir notched 19 hits, including two doubles, a triple, and a homer.
Before Kansas, he was a four-year letterman for Matt Mosiello and the Broncos. He was named second team all-league and to the league all-academic team his freshman year. He followed up with first team all-league and all-county honors his sophomore year, and was named to the second team All-CIF and the All-Valley team his junior year.
His best season came in 2012, when he batted .411 with 37 hits, 17 RBI, two doubles, a triple, a home run and a .555 slugging percentage and swiped 36 bags. On the bump, he compiled a record of 7-7 in four seasons with a 2.25 ERA; he tossed 112 innings in 40 appearances, making 10 starts.
