As a junior at Deer Valley high school in Antioch, CA, Ricky was a member of the Oakland A's Area Code team in Long Beach, CA with Merchant teammate JR Davis. Ricky went on to post a 7-1 record his senior year with a 1.03 ERA where Deer Valley was ranked #1 in the East Bay and #9 in the State. He was a Cal-Hi All State Selection, as well as a Rawlings/Perfect Game 2nd team All West Region performer. Ricky signed an NLI with Cal State Fullerton, but ended up at Diablo Valley College, where he was a misleading 1-3 with 1 save. He has transferred to San Joaquin Delta in Stockton where he redshirted as a sophomore after an injury to his meniscus in his left leg.
In 2013, Ricky had a great comeback during the summer, as he was the Merchants reliable closer and was 5-1 with one save and a 2.36 ERA which ranked him 4th in the Golden State Collegiate Baseball League (GSCBL). At the end of the summer, he was an All GSCBL 2nd team selection as a relief pitcher and he was ranked by Perfect Game as the #3 prospect in the GSCBL.
In the summer of 2014, Delgado struggled a bit right out of the gate because he was coming off a meniscus surgery in January of 2014. He was 0-4 in his first 4 decisions of the summer. After a strong outing in Reno, Nevada over the 4th of July weekend, Delgado caught fire and went 4-1 in his last 5 decisions, including a GSCBL semifinal playoff win against the Healdsburg Prune Packers. In his last 27 innings of the summer, Delgado struck out 25 batters.
This year, he is the Saturday starter for a San Joaquin Delta College team that is currently ranked by Baseball America as the #1 JC in the nation at 24-0 (as of April 1st). He is 5-0 with an ERA of 1.91 over 42 innings pitched.
