As a true freshman in 2010, Gebler made the transition from starting pitcher to closer and became the most dependable arm out of the bullpen for Rutgers University. Gebler appeared in 28 games and recorded 12 saves while posting a 1.75 ERA.

Rutgers and the SteepleCats might look to return Gebler to a starting role this summer. Gebler was a two-sport athlete at Toms River South High School. In baseball, he went 9-3 on the mound with a 1.40 ERA and 72 strikeouts as a senior. That year he was named to all-state third team by the Star Ledger. Gebler went 9-2 as a junior with a 1.46 ERA and 83 strikeouts. That season he was named Shore Conference Player of the Year and to the all-state second team. Gebler also played high school basketball and scored more than 1,200 career points.
