Scott Lonergan worked his way into the starting rotation in training camp, his role as a starter in his professional career.  Lonergan was drafted by the Red Sox in 2007 (37th round, 1127 overall) and began his pro career in playing for Lowell Spinners of the New York-Penn League after an impressive collegiate senior season at Rice University (4-0 with a 3.16 ERA, 28 strike outs and 7 walks in 31.1 innings in 2007).  That year, he didn’t pitch on a scheduled night and was called into the managers office after the game and told to report to AAA Pawtucket the next day.  He pitched 4.1 innings, giving up 3 hits and 3 earned runs while recording 3 strike outs and 2 walks in his AAA appearance.
