An honorable mention preseason All-American at Farmington H.S., Helms comes to the Mystic Schooners by way of Virginia Tech.  As a freshman at Virginia Tech, he batted .216 in 22 games with 5 starts, getting 8 hits in 37 at bats.  Helms knocked in 4 runs and scored another 6.  As a senior at Farmington, Helms batted .474 with 16 extra base hits, a .776 slugging percentage and 29 runs scored.  He was named all-state, all-conference and was one of the top 10 players in New England.  Helms joins fellow Virginia Tech Hokie Ricky Hodges on the Schooners this summer.  He is the son of James Helms and Lois and Mike McGuire.
