Goodline, 23, was drafted in the 48th Round of the 2006 Major League Entry by the Cubs out of North Monterey County High School in Castroville, Calif. At North Monterey the 6’5” right-hander received All-League First Team recognition as a senior and Second Team honors as a junior. Goodline elected to head to college and excelled in his first two seasons at Santa Rosa Junior College. As a freshman in 2007, the Monterey, Calif. native posted a 3-2 record and a 2.97 ERA over 39.1 innings. Goodline followed with another strong campaign the next year with a 2.10 ERA in 34.1 innings pitched. 

California State University, Los Angeles was the next stop for Goodline, but he appeared in just four games in 2009 before being forced to use a medical redshirt following season-ending arm injury. Goodline bounced back from the injury to be the best pitcher on the Golden Eagles roster in 2010. In 13 starts and a team-high 85.1 innings pitched, Goodline earned a 4-3 record to go along with a 4.01 ERA, adding 62 strikeouts against just 15 walks. As a senior, Goodline had another strong season pitching 84.1 innings with 12 starts and one complete game. The Urban Learning major at Cal State LA struck out 58 while walking 22 with a 3.95 ERA for the Golden Eagles

Last summer, Goodline gained a bit of professional experience in brief stints with the San Angelo Colts of the North American League and the Roswell Invaders of the Pecos League. Goodline threw just four innings for the Colts with a walk and a strikeout and had a 1-3 record in 24 innings with the Invaders with 35 strikeouts and eight walks.
