Derek Atkinson (Sophomore, OF, Camas, WA. Clackamas Community College)
A sophomore at Clackamas Community College in Oregon City, OR, Derek Atkinson was a second-team Southern Region election while playing for head coach Robin Robinson in 2011. Atkinson batted .308 for the Cougars in the all wood bat NWACC and played for the Bellingham Bells and head coach, Gary Hatch, of the West Coast Collegiate League this past summer, where he batted .257 with five extra base hits. Prior to his time at Clackamas, Atkinson was a three time all-league selection and 2010 all-state selection for Camas High School in Camas, WA and head coach Joe Hallead.
Giarratano on Atkinson: "Derek Atkinson is a very talented left-handed hitting speed outfielder, who can play all three positions. He has a chance to hit in the middle of the order and we are excited to have him for the next three years."
Bells coach Jim Clem on Atkinson: "After joining the team late, Derek was consistently one of the best performers on our team last summer. For his age, he is a mature competitor, an accomplished hitter, and an exceptional outfielder. We are very pleased to have Derek back in a Bells uniform for this coming summer and we will look for him to be a leader on and off the field."
