Kurtis Byrne joins the American Association after his rookie season with Rocky Mountain in the Pioneer League, where he played 22 games, hitting .333 with four home runs and 26 RBI. Before his pro debut, he played nine games in the Collegiate Prospect League with the O’Fallon Hoots, hitting .342 with a home run and five RBI.
Byrne spent parts of five seasons at Texas Christian University, rotating between catcher and first base. He was named to the All-Big-12 Tournament Team for two consecutive years, hitting two home runs and recording four RBI during TCU’s loss against Kansas. He finished the season hitting .270, leading the team with eight homers and 42 RBI in 2024.
In 2023, Byrne started 47 games, hitting .385 with 55 hits, including nine doubles and a career-high 10 home runs. He added 12 multi-hit games and 11 multi-RBI contests, reaching base in 42 games. He had a strong postseason, contributing significantly to the Big 12 Championship and NCAA tournaments.
In 2022, Byrne was named Honorable Mention All-Big 12 and 1st-team Academic All-Big 12, hitting .291 with five home runs and 44 RBI. During the 2021 Covid season, he played 16 games, boasting a .333 batting average and a .556 slugging percentage.
