(Jack) Deering has spent the past sixty six years in baseball. Jack began his baseball life in 1944 as batboy for the Pastime A.C. and the Strawberry Hill A.C. until 1949. By the time he was 15 years of age he was an accomplished outfielder and was placed on the Strawberry Hill A.C. roster in the Norwalk City League. He then continued his baseball playing for Post 12 American Legion 1950/1951. Upon completing his tour in the United States Air Force, he pursued his baseball career and had a brief stint in the Florida State League with West Palm Beach but due to a serious injury his professional career ended abruptly.
Since 1955 Coach Deering played for teams in the Stamford, Norwalk and Danbury City and night leagues. He then coached in Junior Babe Ruth, organized/managed a CYO baseball team and Ronnie’ s of Bethel in the Senior Babe Ruth League for eight years. Beginning in 1958 he was a “ bird dog” for the San Francisco Giants for twenty years, outfield and bench coach for the Torrington Twisters 2000/2001 seasons and currently is in his second year as the outfield and bench coach for the Danbury Westerners. |
