Justin Shafer was put on the inactive list for the Kansas City Monarchs on May 17. He has been called back up and is active as of May 28. Shafer was born on September 18, 1992 in Lake Wales, Florida. He attended Lake Wales High School and went on to attend college at the University of Florida where he was both a position player and a pitcher. He played three years with the Gators and in his final season there, as a position player he hit .211 and earned 10 RBIs. Pitching, he had one win with a 4.17 ERA along with 27 strikeouts. Shafer was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 8th round (234th overall) of the 2014 MLB Draft. He started off in the minor leagues until making his major league debut in 2018. In his minor league career pitching, he has won 23 games with a 3.82 ERA, and 27 saves. As a position player in the minors, he has 373 hits, 191 runs, and 25 home runs.
