2012 is Voyles first season as a coach for the Honkers, but he did win a Northwoods League Championship with the Thunder Bay Border Cats as a player in 2005. The former UTSA infielder was drafted in the 34th round of the 2006 First-Year Player Draft by the New York Mets and spent three years playing in their organization before beginning his coaching career. The Tulsa, OK native started at St. Thomas High School in Houston, TX where he won a state championship in 2009 under head coach and former Major League All-Star Craig Biggio. When Etheredge accepted the head job for the Honkers, his first phone call was to Voyles, whom Etheredge regards as "the best infield guy there is." JR will coach the infielders and hitters this summer. |
