Adam overcame arm problems and was 1-0 with a 4.76 ERA in six games for Oregon State in 2011. He had three strikeouts in 5.2 innings.

Adam earned Utah All-State honors three times and was a preseason and postseason Louisville Slugger All-American. He was the 2010 Utah Player of the Year and Utah Gatorade Player of the Year.

Adam finished his high school career with a 31-6 record in 44 games, and was 11-0 as a senior with a 1.33 ERA and 100 strikeouts. He was rated as the No. 117 high school player in the nation by Baseball America his senior season.

He and Knights' pitcher Tyler Duffin were high school teammates.
