The Monarchs signed right-hander Kevin Lenik on February 15, 2021, marking a return to Kansas City for the California native. Lenik, a former Kansas City Royals farmhand, returns to Kansas City after spending the early part of 2019 with the T-Bones. Lenik began the 2019 with the Kansas City Royals organization and made five appearances out of the pen for AAA Omaha, going 2-0 with a 9.00 ERA over six innings. The Royals released Lenik on April 24th, and he would sign with the T-Bones on May 12th. Lenik appeared in three games for Kansas City in 2019, working three innings with a save and posting a 6.00 ERA with five strike outs. His stay in the metro was short as his contract was purchased on June 1, 2019 by Boston Red Sox organization, joining Eric Stout, who had his contract purchased by the Cincinnati Reds, as T-Bones being purchased on the same day.

Lenik’s 2019 season would see him make three stops in the Red Sox system after he left KCK.
