Whitney, now in his second time around with the Mainers, has been well traveled over his three year collegiate career as he has continually gotten better every season.  In his first year as member of Georgia Southern University’s ball club, the Campbell Hall, NY native has made a name for himself out of the bullpen for the Eagles. Over 61.2 innings pitched he amassed a 1.90 ERA, 5th lowest in the Sun Belt Conference, after allowing only 13 ER on 43 hits.  He made a team high 26 appearances, 23 out of the bullpen, recording an impressive 53 strikeouts compared to only 26 walks and holding opponents to just a .194 batting average. In his previous stop in Sanford, Whitney used his time with the Mainers to hone his craft. The 6-4 righty appeared in 11 games with six starts earning a 2-1 record over 33.2 innings pitched, striking out 36 and only walking 14. Whitney spent his 2017 season at Catawba Valley Community College where he was the staff ace going 8-3 in 13 starts with 101 strikeouts in 87.1 innings, ending the season with a 2.89 ERA.
