Melville begins his first season with the Ducks in 2017. He reached the Major Leagues as a member of the Cincinnati Reds in 2016, making three appearances (two starts) in “The Show” and striking out eight batters in nine innings of work. In his MLB debut at Great American Ball Park on April 10, he allowed just one run over four innings and struck out five as Cincinnati defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates, 2-1. The 27-year-old also made nine appearances (three starts) during the season between Triple-A Louisville and the team’s Rookie-level affiliate in Arizona.

Prior to his time with the Reds, Melville pitched in the Kansas City Royals and Tigers organizations. The Virginia native made a career-high 27 starts with Triple-A Toledo in 2015 and struck out 102 batters over a career-best 151 and two-thirds innings. In 2011 with Single-A Wilmington of the Carolina League, he earned career-highs in wins (11), appearances (29) and strikeouts (108). He was also named the Carolina League’s Pitcher of the Week on August 1 of that year. Melville was originally drafted by the Royals in the fourth round of the 2008 amateur draft.
