Toronto, ON – Pointstreak.com Inc. and the Australian Ice Hockey Federation (Ice Hockey Australia- IHA) are pleased to announce they have reached a long term agreement that will see Pointstreak provide real-time scoring, official statistics and administrative services to Ice Hockey Australia. In addition Pointstreak will provide Ice Hockey Australia with online registration service as well as website design and hosting through its content management system. These services will be provided to the entire Australian hockey program as well as the Australian National Team and National Junior and Women’s teams. The ice skating commenced in 1904 and the first organized ice hockey match took place in Adelaide, South Australia. The rink closed shortly thereafter and when it reopened in Melbourne, Victoria, the first international game took place between a team of sailors from the USS Baltimore Warship on the 12th July 1906. During the 1909 season, the first interstate series took place between the states of New South Wales and Victoria for the prestigious Goodall Cup. The Goodall Cup is stated to be the third oldest ice hockey trophy in the world still being competed for today. Australia joined the International Ice Hockey Federation in 1938. The country participated in the 1960 Squaw Valley Winter Olympics and attended their first World Championship in 1962.
