From One Tough Town to Another

Flyers set all-time record with $85,595 jackpot with charitable proceeds benefiting those most affected by the Boston terrorist attack

 

In a town that isn’t always known for compassion, the Philadelphia Flyers and their fans did their city proud when they honored the victims and first responders of the recent Boston terrorist attack.

Prior to last night’s game against the Boston Bruins, Comcast Spectacor President, Peter Luukko announced that the charitable proceeds of the Flyers Charities 50/50 raffle would go directly to the One Fund Boston, set up by Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick and Boston Mayor Tom Menino to ‘help the people most affected by the tragic events that occurred in Boston on April 15, 2013’.

With a classic hockey match-up between the Bruins and the Flyers set, the motivated people of the Flyers Charities and the great fans of Philadelphia worked together to shatter the previous Flyers 50/50 pot of $67,840 with a final jackpot of $85,595. Half of this jackpot ($42,798) will go directly to the One Fund Boston, currently at over $21 million in donations.

The record jackpot is not only a new high for the Flyers, but also sets an all-time record for electronic 50/50 raffles for NHL games in the U.S.
