Russia uses early goal to top Team QMJHL, 2-0

Russia beat Team QMJHL, 2-0, in a contest where the winning goal was scored in the first period but the game remained close throughout.

Kirill Rasskazov provided Russia with the game-winning tally when he scored 16:40 into the the first period. Ildar Isangulov assisted on the tally.

 

Sergey Kostenko spearheaded the defensive effort for Russia, as he did not allow a puck past him and made 42 saves for the shutout. The solid play of Kostenko will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 3.09.

Russia was led by Rasskazov, who racked up one goal.

Russia put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Team QMJHL to score on any of its four power plays. Russia's offense was clicking better than usual and put 35 shots on goal during the game, better than the 21.5 shots per game it averages.

Russia also got a goal from Bogdan Potekhin as well. In addition, Russia received assists from Danil Apalkov and Pavel Medvedev, who contributed one a piece.

Team QMJHL forced Russia goalie Kostenko to work between the pipes, taking 42 shots.

Team QMJHL was led by Zack Phillips, who took five shots.

Russia incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Maxime Lagace recorded 33 saves for Team QMJHL. Team QMJHL incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
