Pensacola downs Mississippi RiverKings in overtime, 6-5 (OT)

The Pensacola Ice Flyers pulled out a 6-5 (OT) overtime victory over Mississippi RiverKings on a clutch goal by Brandon Zurn.

The win by Pensacola clinched the best of three series at 2-0.

Mississippi RiverKings could not complete its climb out of a two-goal hole. The Ice Flyers made the score 5-3 on a goal by Ryan Kesti at 12:06 in the third period. Mississippi RiverKings pulled to within 5-4 on a goal by Devin Mantha at 17:30 in the third period.

Corey Banfield and Zurn provided the spark for Pensacola, combining for three goals and one assist. Banfield grabbed two goals and one assist and Zurn also added one goal.

The Ice Flyers forced Mississippi RiverKings goalie Peter Di Salvo to work between the pipes, taking 45 shots.

Pensacola also had goals scored by Joseph Holka and Adam Pawlick, who each put in one. In addition, Pensacola received assists from Drew Baker, Paul Rodrigues, Charlie Adams, Joe Caveney, and Brandon Blair, who contributed one each and Anthony Calabrese and Jeremy Gates, who each chipped in two.

Mississippi RiverKings kept Pensacola's goalie busy throughout the game, and Matt Zenzola made 28 saves on 33 shots.

Mississippi RiverKings also got points from Sam Higgins, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Cullen Bradshaw, who also had one goal and one assist. Todd Hosmer also scored for Mississippi RiverKings. Other players who recorded assists for Mississippi RiverKings were Ryan Marcuz, Bret Peppler, and Tim Boyle, who contributed one each and Reid Campbell and Donald Olivieri, who each chipped in two.

The Ice Flyers incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Di Salvo recorded 39 saves for Mississippi RiverKings. Mississippi RiverKings incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
