Caledonia holds on for 6-5 win against Waterloo

The Caledonia Corvairs survived a determined comeback attempt by the Waterloo Siskins on the way to a 6-5 win.

A goal by Mitchell Fitzmorris put Caledonia up 5-3 in the third period, but Waterloo pulled to within one on Austin Bentley's tally 7:52 into the third period.

The win gave the Corvairs a 2-0 lead in the best of seven series.

Caledonia got the win thanks to a great game by Jake Brown, who had two goals and one assist. Brown scored the first of his two goals at 13:46 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Caledonia. Blake Luscombe assisted on the tally. Brown's next tally made the score 4-3 Caledonia with 3:55 left in the second period. The Corvairs had gained a power play chance when Andrew Lane was whistled for high sticking. Tyler Hill picked up the assist.

Caledonia also got points from Fitzmorris, who also registered two goals and one assist and Matthew Hore, who also had one goal and one assist. Caledonia also got a goal from Daniel Volpe as well. More assists for Caledonia came via Corey Pawley, who had two and Ryan Punkari, Quentin Maksimovich, and Tait Seguin, who contributed one each.

The Siskins forced Caledonia goalie Mark Sinclair to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots.

Waterloo was helped by Conner Jean, who tallied one goal and two assists. Jean scored 10:02 into the second period to make the score 3-3. Sam Cherry assisted on the tally. Waterloo additionally got points from Owen Kipke, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Nate Schnarr, who also registered one goal and one assist. Joshua Slegers also scored for Waterloo. In addition, Waterloo received assists from Anthony Pullicino, who had one.

Mark Sinclair made 31 saves for the Corvairs on 36 shots. Caledonia incurred 40 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors. The Siskins' Mitchell Datz stopped 21 shots out of the 27 that he faced. Waterloo incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
