Mississippi RiverKings survives Louisiana comeback, wins 5-3Landers Center Wed, Apr 13, 2016 Story by Narrative Science.
The Louisiana IceGators tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but Mississippi RiverKings held on for a 5-3 victory. Mississippi RiverKings made the score 5-2 on a goal by Todd Hosmer at 10:03 in the third period, and Louisiana got as close as 5-3 when Matt Robertson scored 14:26 into the third period. After the loss made the series score 1-0 in the best of three series, the IceGators face elimination next time out. Devin Mantha had a great game for Mississippi RiverKings, netting two goals. Mantha's tallies came at 12:12 into the first period to make the score 1-1 and 1:06 into the second to make the score 3-1 Mississippi RiverKings. Mississippi RiverKings kept Louisiana's goalie busy throughout the game, and Brad Barone made 30 saves on 35 shots. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals. Mississippi RiverKings also got points from Tim Boyle, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Richard Coyne also scored for Mississippi RiverKings. In addition, Mississippi RiverKings received assists from Ryan Marcuz, Charles Mosey, Linden Bahm, and Donald Olivieri, who each chipped in one and Leo Thomas and Matt Harrington, who contributed two each. The IceGators relied on a core group of players for most of their offense, as Mike Kavanagh, Robertson and John Daniels took 13 of the team's 25 shots. Louisiana additionally got points from Zac Frischmon, who also tallied one goal and one assist. More assists for Louisiana came via Dan Cornell, who had one and Blake Hietala, who had two. Peter Di Salvo made 22 saves for Mississippi RiverKings on 25 shots. Mississippi RiverKings incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Louisiana incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
