Point Mallard wins tough contest against North Iowa, 4-3

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, Point Mallard escaped with a 4-3 victory over North Iowa.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Jake Champaign secured the win for Point Mallard with a goal in the third period.

Champaign was all over the ice for Point Mallard, as he had two goals in the win.

Point Mallard managed to stay out of the box better than usual, finishing with one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Point Mallard ended up below its season average of 5.0 penalty minutes per game. Point Mallard forced North Iowa goalie Zack St. John to work between the pipes, taking 35 shots.

Others who scored for Point Mallard included Justin Dunn and Justin Delisle, who each put in one. In addition, Point Mallard received assists from Josh Hamilton, who had two and Ian Precht and Jake Cox, who each chipped in one.

North Iowa managed to stay out of the box better than usual, registering one minor for two minutes in penalty time. North Iowa finished below its season average of 5.0 penalty minutes per game. Point Mallard was unable to stop North Iowa from sending pucks towards the net, and North Iowa eventually piled up 40 shots on goal. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

North Iowa was helped by Connor Bump, who registered two goals. Bump scored the first of his two goals at 2:13 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Ryan Durant assisted on the tally. Bump's next tally made the score 2-1 North Iowa with 3:19 left in the first period. Joe Burgmeier picked up the assist. North Iowa additionally got points from Durant, who also tallied one goal and one assist. More assists for North Iowa came via Tommi Ahlgren, Eric Piatt, and Austin Jackson, who contributed one each.
