Elmira survives Stratford comeback, wins 4-3

The Stratford Cullitons tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Elmira Sugar Kings held on for a 4-3 victory.

Elmira made the score 4-2 on a goal by Rob Kohli at 5:09 in the third period, and Stratford got as close as 4-3 when Zander Pryor scored 11:57 into the third period.

With the win, the Sugar Kings evened the series at 1-1 in the best of seven showdown.

Elmira was paced by Kohli, who tallied one goal.

Team could not crack the Cullitons' penalty kill and was held to two power play goals while having nine opportunities to play with the man advantage.

Elmira also got points from Zac Coulter, who also registered one goal and one assist. Elmira also had goals scored by Ryan Maksymyk and Mackenzie MacSorley, who each put in one. In addition, Elmira received assists from Jake Moggy, who had two and Ethan Skinner, Kalob Witzell, and Kevin Fitzpatrick, who contributed one each.

Stratford kept the Sugar Kings' goalie busy throughout the game, and Jonathan Reinhart made 44 saves on 47 shots. The Cullitons were held back by their power play unit, which tallied two goals on nine chances.

Others who scored for Stratford included Joe Leahy and Josh Higgins, who scored one goal each. More assists for Stratford came via Jack Scanlan, Rob Grant, and Zach Van Louwe, who each chipped in one.

Elmira incurred 52 minutes in penalty time with 11 minors. For the Sugar Kings, Alex Peterson was ejected from the game. Alexander Brooks-Potts made 26 saves for Stratford on 30 shots. The Cullitons incurred 32 minutes in penalty time with 11 minors.
