Jean's goals lift Waterloo to 2-1 victory over KitchenerWaterloo Rec Complex Thu, Mar 17, 2016 Story by Narrative Science.
The Waterloo Siskins relied on the scoring touch of Conner Jean, who netted two goals, to beat the Kitchener Dutchmen, 2-1. Jean scored on the power play at 14:23 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Waterloo and again while on the power play 19:22 into the third to make the score 2-1 Waterloo.The win gave Waterloo a 2-0 lead in the best of seven series. Kitchener was stymied by the Siskins' netminder Mitchell Datz, who stopped 44 shots during the victory. Datz managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 1.66 prior to the game. Waterloo pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 17 penalty minutes. The Siskins put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Dutchmen to score on any of their seven power plays. Other players who recorded assists for Waterloo were Joshua Slegers, Lucas Goodman, Gary Mantz, and Nick Hirst, who contributed one each. Kitchener forced Waterloo goalie Datz to work between the pipes, taking 45 shots. The Dutchmen were led by Adam Kawalec, who scored the team's only goal. Kawalec scored 1:37 into the third period to make the score 1-1. The Siskins registered two goals on seven power play opportunities. Waterloo ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Andrew Lane was ejected from the game. Kitchener's Luke Richardson stopped 24 shots out of the 26 that he faced. The Dutchmen incurred 26 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
