Cape Cod wins tough contest against Lewiston/Auburn, 3-2Falmouth Fri, Mar 18, 2016 Story by Narrative Science.
The game between Cape Cod and Lewiston/Auburn was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Cape Cod emerged with a 3-2 win. Cape Cod gained the winning advantage on a goal by Steven Mathews 4:45 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer. After the loss made the series score 1-0 in the best of three series, Lewiston/Auburn faces elimination next time out. Mathews had two goals to lead Cape Cod to victory. Cape Cod excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. Cape Cod also got points from Anthony Giannelli, who also tallied one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for Cape Cod were Frank Oakley, who had two and Max Campbell and Dan Moore, who each chipped in one. Lewiston/Auburn was helped by Brett Bittner, who grabbed one goal. Bittner scored 2:12 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Lewiston/Auburn. Austin Siering assisted on the tally. Walker Hamilton also scored for Lewiston/Auburn. In addition, Lewiston/Auburn received assists from Dylan Vrees, who had one. Cape Cod's Steven Schmitt stopped 26 shots out of the 28 that he faced. Cape Cod incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors. Claes Endre made 27 saves for Lewiston/Auburn on 30 shots. Lewiston/Auburn incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
