Toronto Jr. Canadiens beats Burlington 4-3 after comeback scare

The Burlington Cougars tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Toronto Jr. Canadiens Junior Canadiens held on for a 4-3 victory.

Toronto Jr. Canadiens took a 4-1 lead during the third period, only to have Burlington storm back on a David Kiss goal 13:05 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

With the win, the Junior Canadiens avoided elimination to make the series score 3-1 in the best of seven series.

Connor Beck had two goals and one assist to lead Toronto Jr. Canadiens. Beck scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 19:04 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Toronto Jr. Canadiens. The Junior Canadiens earned a power play opportunity when Zac Herrmann was put in the box for unsportsmanlike conduct. Nicholas Ursitti picked up the assist. Beck's next tally on the power play made the score 3-1 Toronto Jr. Canadiens with 5:11 left in the second period. Nicholas Jarzabek assisted on the tally.

Toronto Jr. Canadiens' offense rang up 42 shots on the Cougars' net.

Toronto Jr. Canadiens also got points from Ursitti, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Gianfranco Cassaro also scored for Toronto Jr. Canadiens. In addition, Toronto Jr. Canadiens received assists from Andrew Pucci, Luca Farrace, Cody Symonds, and Michael Siddall, who contributed one each.

Burlington kept the Junior Canadiens' goalie busy throughout the game, and Daniel Lopapa made 28 saves on 31 shots. The Cougars' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Burlington additionally got points from David Thomson, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. More assists for Burlington came via Jordan Peacock, Zack Elson, Nathan Gomes, Chris Cobham, and Griffin James, who each chipped in one.

Toronto Jr. Canadiens totaled 27 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 1-for-6 on the power play. The Junior Canadiens ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and David Zeppieri was ejected from the game. Burlington's Austin Washkurak stopped 38 shots out of the 42 that he faced. The Cougars incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
