St. Catharines survives Welland comeback, wins 5-3

The St. Catharines Falcons came close to giving away a three-goal lead to the Welland Jr. Canadians, but did just enough to escape with a 5-3 victory.

St. Catharines led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Falcons' Noah Perlic scored at 16:09 in the second period to put St. Catharines up 4-1.

With the win, the Falcons evened the series at 1-1 in the best of seven showdown.

St. Catharines' offense rang up 34 shots on Welland's net. The Falcons cashed in on power play opportunities, scoring two goals on three chances.

St. Catharines was led by Anthony Postiglione, who tallied two goals and one assist. Postiglione scored the first of his two goals at 2:52 into the second period to make the score 3-0 St. Catharines. Brandon Cercone picked up the assist. Postiglione's next tally made the score 5-3 St. Catharines with 12:14 left in the third period. The Falcons earned a power play opportunity when Jack Fitzgerald was put in the box for hooking. James Guest assisted on the tally. St. Catharines also got points from Tyler Hildebrandt, who also registered one goal and one assist. St. Catharines also got a goal from Mitchell Webb as well. More assists for St. Catharines came via Justin Felker, who had two and Romaeo D`Intino and Brady Lee, who contributed one each.

St. Catharines was unable to stop the Jr. Canadians from sending pucks towards the net, and Welland eventually piled up 32 shots on goal.

The Jr. Canadians were led by Ryan Miotto, who racked up one goal and two assists. Miotto scored 17:17 into the second period to make the score 4-2 St. Catharines. Nicholas Boehmer provided the assist. Welland additionally got points from Adam Barron, who also finished with one goal and one assist. In addition, Welland received assists from Steven Farano, who had one.

Joel Horodziejczyk made 29 saves for the Falcons on 32 shots. St. Catharines incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Welland's Chris Janzen stopped 29 shots out of the 34 that he faced. The Jr. Canadians incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
