Calgary Inferno outlasts Brampton Thunder, 4-3

Calgary Inferno gutted out a close 4-3 win against Brampton Thunder.

Calgary Inferno gained the winning advantage on a goal by Rebecca Johnston 12:27 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.

The win by Calgary Inferno clinched the best of three series at 2-0.

Johnston had one goal and two assists to lead Calgary Inferno.

Calgary Inferno's penalty kill excelled, as Calgary Inferno gave up zero goals despite allowing seven power plays.

Calgary Inferno stifled Brampton Thunder's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Calgary Inferno forced Brampton Thunder goalie Erica Howe to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots. Calgary Inferno's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Calgary Inferno also had goals scored by Brigitte Lacquette, Meaghan Mikkelson-Reid, and Bailey Bram, who each put in one. In addition, Calgary Inferno received assists from Jacquie Pierri and Blayre Turnbull, who each chipped in one and Brianne Jenner and Jill Saulnier, who contributed two each.

Brampton Thunder's offense rang up 33 shots on Calgary Inferno's net. The defensemen of Brampton Thunder were also effective in Calgary Inferno's zone, and came away with two goals.

Brampton Thunder was helped by Courtney Birchard, who tallied one goal. Birchard scored 18:54 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Calgary Inferno. Kristen Richards assisted on the tally. Others who scored for Brampton Thunder included Rebecca Vint and Sarah Edney, who scored one goal each. More assists for Brampton Thunder came via Becca King, Jocelyne Larocque, and Jamie Lee Rattray, who each chipped in one.

Delayne Brian recorded 30 saves for Calgary Inferno. Calgary Inferno incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Erica Howe made 27 saves for Brampton Thunder on 31 shots. Brampton Thunder incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
