New Hamburg rips Paris, 7-3

The Paris Mounties had trouble finding ways to stop the New Hamburg Firebirds, which beat Mounties, 7-3.

The win by New Hamburg clinched the best of seven series at 4-1.

The Firebirds pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 39 penalty minutes.

New Hamburg was sparked by Jerry Ennett, who racked up one goal. Ennett scored short handed 13:29 into the second period to make the score 4-2 New Hamburg. A head contact call on Brodie Muckler put the Firebirds on the penalty kill.

New Hamburg forced Paris' goaltenders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, taking 40 shots and forcing 33 saves. Davis McLean made 27 stops and Hayden Padalino made six.

New Hamburg additionally got points from Quinten Haddock, who also had one goal and two assists to lead the team in points and Carter Tracey, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Others who scored for New Hamburg included Tyler Randerson, Curtis Smith, Andrew Boer, and Tyler Hoffman, who each put in one. In addition, New Hamburg received assists from Ethan Adair, Tyler Kleine, Mario Alyas, and Walker Davison, who each chipped in one.

The Mounties excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances. Paris kept the Firebirds' goalie busy throughout the game, and Ryan Purcell made 35 saves on 38 shots. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

The Mounties were helped by Connor Purbrick, who registered one goal. Purbrick scored 1:47 into the second period to make the score 3-2 New Hamburg. Keegan Alvestad picked up the assist. Paris also had goals scored by Mitchell Harvey and Griffin Heitshu, who scored one goal each. More assists for Paris came via Brady Wheelans, Mikael Ruffini, and Ryan Stephenson, who contributed one each.

New Hamburg ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Adam Zehr was ejected from the game. Paris incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
