M1 Syracuse University uses fast start to beat M1 Cortland State University of NY, 10-1

A four-goal first period deficit cost the M1 Cortland State University of NY Red Dragons, which could not recover and fell to the M1 Syracuse University Orange, 10-1.

M1 Syracuse University got the win on the strength of a great game by Keith Lambert, who had two goals and two assists. Lambert scored the first of his two goals at 7:12 into the first period to make the score 2-0 M1 Syracuse University. Matthew DiVietro provided the assist. Lambert's next tally made the score 5-0 M1 Syracuse University with 14:42 left in the second period. The Orange had gotten the advantage when M1 Cortland State University of NY's Tate Cretti was sent off for hooking. John Ross LaPointe assisted on the tally.

The Red Dragons were doomed by their poor performance on special teams, as M1 Syracuse University was able to score four times while on the power play.

The Orange forced M1 Cortland State University of NY's goalies to work in net, totaling 39 shots and forcing 29 saves. Elliott Messmer made 16 stops and Hunter Andersen made 13. M1 Syracuse University's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six M1 Cortland State University of NY power plays. The Orange found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. M1 Syracuse University has scored at the pace of 3.7 goals per game during the current campaign.

M1 Syracuse University also got points from LaPointe, who also registered two goals and two assists and Nolan Metzler, who also racked up two goals and two assists to lead the team in points. Others who scored for M1 Syracuse University included Connor McNamara and David Nardoni, who scored two goals each. More assists for M1 Syracuse University came via Patrick Corcoran, who had three, Dylan Hantula and Mitchell Lesueur, who contributed one each, and Thomas DiPasquale and William Franzese, who each chipped in two.

The Red Dragons struggled to put together a cohesive attack and finished with a mere 12 shots over the course of the game. Still, the total topped M1 Cortland State University of NY's average of 0.3 per game this year. The Red Dragons did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season.
