Madison Capitols 18U uses shootout to best Meijer AAA 18U, 3-2

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as Madison Capitols 18U defeated Meijer AAA 18U in a shootout 3-2.

The shootout featured nine attempts between both teams. Meijer AAA 18U got a shootout goal from Skylar Miller. In addition to the clincher, Madison Capitols 18U got a shootout goal from Anthony Callin.

Madison Capitols 18U saw a two-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. Madison Capitols 18U made the score 2-0 on a short handed goal by Mick Messner at 8:32 in the first period. Meijer AAA 18U evened things up at 2-2 on a short handed goal by Andrew Walker at 8:55 in the third period.

Madison Capitols 18U excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. Madison Capitols 18U kept Meijer AAA 18U's goalie busy throughout the game, and Colt Hanks made 32 saves on 35 shots.

Madison Capitols 18U was helped by Konur Peterson, who racked up one goal. Peterson scored 1:29 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Madison Capitols 18U. Messner assisted on the tally. Madison Capitols 18U also got points from Messner, who also had one goal and one assist. More assists for Madison Capitols 18U came via Callin, who had one.

Meijer AAA 18U managed to stay out of the box better than usual, tallying one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Meijer AAA 18U ended up below its season average of 11.0 penalty minutes per game. Meijer AAA 18U forced Madison Capitols 18U goalie Daniel Lebedeff to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots.

Meijer AAA 18U also got a goal from Tyrone Bronte as well. In addition, Meijer AAA 18U received assists from Miller, Ryan Hein, Caleb Hite, and Nick Koperdak, who contributed one each.

Lebedeff recorded 31 saves for Madison Capitols 18U. Madison Capitols 18U incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with two minors.
