Penetang wins tough contest against Caledon, 4-2Penetang Memorial CC Wed, Feb 17, 2016 Story by Narrative Science.
In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Penetang Kings escaped with a 4-2 victory over the Caledon Golden Hawks. Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Hayden Cole secured the win for Penetang with a goal in the third period. The win gave the Kings a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series. Penetang was led by Cole, who had one goal and one assist. Cole scored 15:52 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Penetang. Dallin Blunt picked up the assist. The Kings excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Penetang kept Caledon's goalie busy throughout the game, and Brendan Macham made 41 saves on 45 shots. Others who scored for Penetang included Ben Sly, Braeden Dorion, and Michael Paul, who each put in one. In addition, Penetang received assists from Matt Meher, who had one and Matt Prucha, who had two. The Kings were unable to stop the Golden Hawks from sending pucks towards the net, and Caledon eventually piled up 33 shots on goal. The Golden Hawks did not rack up many penalties in the contest, totaling only one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Caledon was helped by Nicholas McNutt, who racked up one goal. McNutt scored 6:27 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Caledon. Christian Mariconda assisted on the tally. Caledon also got a goal from Ryan Mouser as well. More assists for Caledon came via Kevin Pleasance and Daniel Cafagna, who contributed one each. Andrew North made 31 saves for Penetang on 33 shots. The Kings incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Penetang ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Paul was ejected from the game.
