Dundas shrugs off penalties, upends Hamilton, 7-4

The Hamilton Steelhawks failed to take advantage of their power play opportunities and the Dundas Real McCoys shook off a number of penalties to win, 7-4.

The win gave Dundas a 1-0 lead in the best of one series.

The Real McCoys were sparked by Greg Stewart, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Stewart scored 19:06 into the second period to make the score 5-3 Dundas. Jake Guindon provided the assist.

In a losing effort, Hamilton was led by Cody Wilson, who registered two goals. Wilson scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 1:02 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Hamilton. The Steelhawks had gotten the advantage when Dundas' Dana Tenenbaum was sent off for cross checking. Steve Guzzo picked up the assist. Wilson's next tally on the power play made the score 3-1 Hamilton with 3:37 left in the first period. Mitch McCrank assisted on the tally.

The Real McCoys forced Steelhawks' goalies to work all game long, totaling 41 shots and forcing 34 saves. Ben Goss made 30 stops and Daryl Borden made four. Dundas capitalized on Hamilton's penalties, netting three goals while skating with a man advantage.

Dundas also got points from Guindon, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Dundas included Chris Hulit, who had two and Jordan Foreman, Shawn Snider, and Dan Lapointe, who scored one goal each. In addition, Dundas received assists from Simon Mangos and Scott Stafford, who contributed one each and Jeff White, Cam Watson, and Steve Hurst, who each chipped in two.

The Steelhawks' offense rang up 38 shots on the Real McCoys' net. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

Hamilton additionally got points from McCrank, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Hamilton also got a goal from Cole McNeil as well. More assists for Hamilton came via Ryan Green and Frankie Grandits, who contributed one each.

Mike Mole rejected 34 shots on goal for Dundas. The Real McCoys incurred 40 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors. Hamilton incurred 34 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. For the Steelhawks, Green was ejected from the game.
