Amherstview hangs on, beats Port Hope 2-1

Cody Jodoin gave the Amherstview Jets the lead in the first period, and the Port Hope Panthers was never able to catch up in a close game that ended 2-1.

Amherstview took over the lead for good with a goal by Jodoin at 15:15 in the first period. Brett Maracle provided the assist.

Jodoin had a great game for the Jets, netting two goals.

Amherstview was led by goalie Ryan Kaszuba, who finished with 44 saves while allowing one goal. Kaszuba certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 4.45 entering the contest.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 15:49 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The Jets were held below their usual level of production. Amherstview puts an average of 5.1 pucks into the net per game.

More assists for Amherstview came via Zach Kish, Adam Kim, and Cosimo Morin, who each chipped in one.

Port Hope racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 10 minors and one major for 25 minutes in penalty time. The Panthers surpassed its season average of 20.0 penalty minutes per game. Port Hope stifled the Jets' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Panthers did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Port Hope averages 5.6 goals per game. The Panthers forced Amherstview goalie Kaszuba to work between the pipes, taking 45 shots.

Port Hope was led by Blane Gaudon, who scored the team's only goal. Gaudon scored on the power play 48 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Port Hope. The Panthers had gained a power play chance when Kish was whistled for high sticking. Shawn Mackie picked up the assist.

The Jets totaled 19 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major and went 0-for-7 on the power play. For Amherstview, Perry Tristan was ejected from the game. Aaron Young made 16 saves for Port Hope on 18 shots. The Panthers registered one goal on four power play opportunities. Port Hope ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Mackie was ejected from the game.
