Tavistock falls to Wellesley in overtime, 5-4 (OT)

The Wellesley Applejacks' Alex Uttley scored 12:42 into overtime to beat the Tavistock Braves, 5-4 (OT).

After the loss made the series score 3-1 in the best of seven series, Tavistock faces elimination next time out.

Wellesley came back from a three-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Applejacks was down 4-1 after a power play goal by the Braves' Jake Wiffen at 4:28 in the third period. Wellesley knotted things up at 4-4 on a goal by Nick Mercier at 15:29 in the third period.

Mercier was all over the ice for the Applejacks, as he tallied two goals and two assists in the win. Mercier scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 4:01 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Wellesley. Wellesley had gotten the advantage when Tavistock's Josh Borys was sent off for high sticking. Justin Lebold picked up the assist. Mercier's next tally on the power play made the score 4-4 with 4:31 left in the third period. Cal Jefferies assisted on the tally.

The Applejacks forced the Braves goalie Riley Collins to work between the pipes, taking 42 shots. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

Wellesley also got points from Shaun Pickering, who also had one goal and two assists. Wellesley also got a goal from Brady Gerber as well. More assists for Wellesley came via Sean McEwan, who had one.

Wellesley was unable to stop Tavistock from sending pucks towards the net, and the Braves eventually piled up 44 shots on goal.

Tavistock additionally got points from Mackenzie Sealy, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Jacob Rooke also scored for Tavistock. Other players who recorded assists for Tavistock were Jared Yantzi, Andrew Bogdon, Angus Rowland, and Ocean Check, who contributed one each.

Ryan Porter rejected 40 shots on goal for the Applejacks. Wellesley incurred 26 minutes in penalty time with 13 minors. For the Applejacks, Joe Heath was ejected from the game. Riley Collins made 37 saves for Tavistock on 42 shots. The Braves incurred 32 minutes in penalty time with 11 minors.
