Gananoque uses fast start to beat Campbellford, 10-2

A four-goal first period deficit cost the Campbellford Rebels, which could not recover and fell to the Gananoque Islanders, 10-2.

Gananoque got the win thanks to a great game by Matt Carter, who had one goal and three assists. Carter scored 15:43 into the first period to make the score 5-0 Gananoque. Geoff Clemison assisted on the tally.

Campbellford's power play was ineffective against the Islanders' penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

Gananoque excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in seven chances. The Islanders forced the Rebels goalie Fregonas Eric to work between the pipes, taking 68 shots. Gananoque outdid its season average for goals scored. The Islanders average 4.0 goals per game. Gananoque's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in three goals. The Islanders could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 26 minutes in penalties during the game.

Gananoque also got points from Hunter Drew, who also registered one goal and one assist and Ryosuke Kabayashi, who also tallied one goal and two assists. Gananoque also had goals scored by Brenden Lochead, who had two and Duncan McNaughton, Nic Stafford, Chris Boushy, Ryan Patrick, and Phil Smith, who each put in one. More assists for Gananoque came via Sam MacDonald, who had two and Craig Cross, Drew Marquette, Mike Minns, Brody Cross, and Connor Smith, who each chipped in one.

Campbellford's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Gananoque power plays.

The Rebels were led by Jeremiah Doherty, who had one goal and one assist. Doherty scored 19:26 into the first period to make the score 5-1 Gananoque. Brenan Rylott picked up the assist. Campbellford also got a goal from Riley McGuire as well. In addition, Campbellford received assists from Jacob Trotter, who had one.

MacDonald recorded 26 saves for Gananoque. Campbellford's Eric stopped 58 shots out of the 68 that he faced. The Rebels ended with 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. For Campbellford, Perry Ethan was ejected from the game.
