Central's comeback falls short, NA3HL 18U Selects Red wins 5-4

Central almost clawed its way back from a three-goal deficit, but NA3HL 18U Selects Red managed to pull out a 5-4 win in the end.

NA3HL 18U Selects Red led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when NA3HL 18U Selects Red's Philip Pugliese scored at 1:38 in the second period to put NA3HL 18U Selects Red up 4-1.

NA3HL 18U Selects Red was led by Robert Flannery, who registered one goal. Flannery scored 11:45 into the third period to make the score 5-4 NA3HL 18U Selects Red. Sam Maddox assisted on the tally.

Central was unable to stop NA3HL 18U Selects Red from sending pucks towards the net, and NA3HL 18U Selects Red eventually piled up 38 shots on goal. The defensemen of NA3HL 18U Selects Red were also effective in Central's zone, and came away with two goals.

NA3HL 18U Selects Red also got points from Pugliese, who also racked up one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. NA3HL 18U Selects Red also had goals scored by Cameron McAtee, Luc Kreuser, and Arturas Laukaitis, who scored one goal each. In addition, NA3HL 18U Selects Red received assists from Jake Cox, who had two and Bennett Witta, George Hansen, and Joe Nolan, who each chipped in one.

Central forced NA3HL 18U Selects Red goalie Zach Young to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots. Central did not rack up many penalties in the contest, tallying a minimal one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Central's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in three goals.

Central was helped by Austin Jackson, who racked up one goal. Jackson scored 12:05 into the second period to make the score 4-3 NA3HL 18U Selects Red. Brett Gravelle picked up the assist. Others who scored for Central included Caleb Vosters, Eric Arrigo, and Trey McMillen, who each put in one. More assists for Central came via Joe Burgmeier, Nick Paulson, Daniel Toycen, and Jake Borth, who contributed one each.

Young rejected 32 shots on goal for NA3HL 18U Selects Red. NA3HL 18U Selects Red finished the contest with no penalties and went 0-for-1 with the man advantage. Tommi Ahlgren recorded 33 saves for Central. Central registered zero goals on zero power play opportunities.
