Midwest rips Central, 5-2

Midwest had a two-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 5-2 win over Central.

Trent Kulczyk had two goals and one assist to lead Midwest. Kulczyk scored the first of his two goals at 15:10 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Kyle Van Wyk picked up the assist. Kulczyk's next tally made the score 4-1 Midwest with 9:55 left in the second period. Brandon Bornkamp assisted on the tally.

Midwest forced Central's goalies to work between the pipes, taking 42 shots and forcing 37 saves. Tommi Ahlgren made 17 stops and Andrew Wagner made 20. Midwest surpassed its usual scoring output this season. Midwest averages 2.7 goals per game.

Midwest additionally got points from Thomas Kolaz, who also had one goal and one assist. Midwest also got a goal from Brenden Williams as well. In addition, Midwest received assists from Nicholas Redmon, Marc Anderson, and Frankie Cardinale, who each chipped in one.

Central forced Midwest's goaltenders to work without much rest, getting 54 shots and forcing 52 saves. David Johnson made 27 stops and Ross Lipic made 25.

Central was helped by Thomas Hanson, who racked up one goal. Hanson scored 12:48 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Midwest. Adam Orn provided the assist. Collin Schieman also scored for Central. Other players who recorded assists for Central were Trey McMillen, Taylor Trapp, and Timothy Hoffenkamp, who contributed one each.

Midwest incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors and had no power play opportunities. Central finished the contest with no penalties and went 0-for-2 with the man advantage.
