McLean leads Dresden over Wheatley, 7-6

The Dresden Kings' Isaac McLean had a big offensive game, scoring two goals and contributing two assists in his team's 7-6 win over the Wheatley Omstead Sharks.

McLean scored at 9:42 into the third period to make the score 6-5 Dresden and again while 16:20 into the third to make the score 7-6 Dresden.

Dresden led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Kings' Derek Daly scored at 2:22 in the second period to put Dresden up 5-2.

The Kings found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Dresden averages 3.8 goals per game.

Dresden also got points from Kyle Dawson, who also registered one goal and two assists and Daly, who also tallied one goal and two assists. Dillon Liberty also scored for Dresden. More assists for Dresden came via Kevin Ritzer, Derrick VanEvery, and Steven Funk, who each chipped in one.

Wheatley put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Kings to score on any of their four power plays. The Omstead Sharks outdid their season average for goals scored. This season, Wheatley averages 3.8 goals per contest.

The Omstead Sharks were helped by Mitchell Prudence, who finished with two goals. Prudence scored the first of his two goals at 4:29 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Wheatley. Evan Mastronardi assisted on the tally. Prudence's next tally made the score 5-3 Dresden with 12:44 left in the second period. Andreas Gossmann provided the assist. Wheatley additionally got points from Eric Prudence, who also grabbed one goal and two assists to lead the team in points and Gossmann, who also had one goal and one assist. Wheatley also had goals scored by Justin Pinsonneault and Nick Tavolieri-Essex, who scored one goal each. In addition, Wheatley received assists from Kristian Brockelbank, who had one and Brian Johnson and Lucas Raffoul, who each chipped in two.

Travis Moore recorded 20 saves for Dresden. The Kings incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Eric Morneau rejected 21 shots on goal for Wheatley. The Omstead Sharks incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
