St. Catharines hangs on, beats Ancaster 2-0

Brandon Vuic gave the St. Catharines Falcons the lead in the first period, and the Ancaster Avalanche was never able to catch up in a close game that ended 2-0.

Vuic provided St. Catharines with the game-winning tally when he scored 13:22 into the first period. James Guest picked up the assist.

The Falcons were boosted by Joel Horodziejczyk, who turned in a shutout with 28 saves. The solid play of Horodziejczyk will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 1.27.

St. Catharines was led by Vuic, who tallied one goal.

The Falcons' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Ancaster power plays. St. Catharines did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Falcons average 4.3 goals per game. Ancaster was unable to stop St. Catharines from sending pucks towards the net, and the Falcons eventually piled up 42 shots on goal.

St. Catharines also got a goal from Brady Lee as well. More assists for St. Catharines came via Phillip Chadder, Romaeo D`Intino, and Owen Green, who contributed one each.

The Avalanche's offense operated below their season average. Ancaster puts an average of 4.1 pucks into the net per game.

St. Catharines incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. For the Falcons, Jackson Parker was ejected from the game. The Avalanche's Cole Ceci stopped 40 shots out of the 41 that he faced. Ancaster incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
