Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the M1 West Virginia University Mountaineers defeated M1 Alabama ^ University of in a shootout 4-3 (1-0 SO).

The shootout featured eight attempts between both teams.

M1 West Virginia University pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 14 penalty minutes.

The Mountaineers stifled M1 Alabama ^ University of's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

M1 West Virginia University was helped by Eric Keefe, who had two goals. Keefe scored the first of his two goals at 3:31 into the first period to make the score 1-0 M1 West Virginia University. David Polinski picked up the assist. Keefe's next tally made the score 2-0 M1 West Virginia University with 8:21 left in the first period. Polinski provided the assist. M1 West Virginia University also got a goal from Alec Hnat as well. More assists for M1 West Virginia University came via Phillip Laurelli and Brennen Adams, who contributed one each.

M1 Alabama ^ University of was led by Jake Collins, who racked up two goals and one assist. Collins scored the first of his two goals at 13:45 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Dan Nolte picked up the assist. Collins' next tally made the score 3-3 with 3:15 left in the third period. Dylan Teed assisted on the tally. M1 Alabama ^ University of additionally got points from Nolte, who also registered one goal and one assist.
