Fighting Mongoose outlasts Road Warriors, 5-3

Fighting Mongoose and Road Warriors were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Fighting Mongoose made the most of its opportunities and won, 5-3.

Fighting Mongoose gained the winning advantage on a goal by Greg Fritz 5:55 into the second period and hung on until final buzzer.

Fritz was all over the ice for Fighting Mongoose, as he racked up two goals in the win.

Fighting Mongoose also got points from Justen Dekam, who also had one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Fighting Mongoose included Neil Espeleta and Curt Romey, who each put in one. In addition, Fighting Mongoose received assists from Adrian Cremayer and Lester Delos Santos, who each chipped in two.

Road Warriors put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Fighting Mongoose to score on any of its three power plays. Road Warriors forced Fighting Mongoose goalie Haydn Evans to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

Road Warriors was helped by Markus Lohuaru, who finished with one goal. Lohuaru scored 15:30 into the first period to make the score 2-2. Nathan Gibbs provided the assist. Road Warriors additionally got points from Chris Williams, who also registered one goal and one assist and Devin Turner, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for Road Warriors were So Sem, Linus Lu, and Andrew Smart, who contributed one each.

Evans recorded 29 saves for Fighting Mongoose. Fighting Mongoose incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Road Warriors' Tom Misar stopped 12 shots out of the 17 that he faced. Road Warriors totaled 21 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 0-for-1 on the power play. Road Warriors ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Turner was ejected from the game.
