M1 Duquesne University uses shootout to best M1 Oswego State University, 5-4 (2-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the M1 Duquesne University Dukes defeated the M1 Oswego State University Lakers in a shootout 5-4 (2-0 SO).

The two teams needed six turns to complete the shootout. In addition to the clincher, M1 Duquesne University got a shootout goal from Nolan Trombetta.

The Dukes came back from a three-goal deficit to capture the victory. M1 Duquesne University was down 4-1 after a short handed goal by M1 Oswego State University's Mike Henry at 19:23 in the second period. The Dukes knotted things up at 4-4 on a goal by Tim Freed at 12:44 in the third period.

M1 Duquesne University's penalty kill excelled, as the Dukes gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays.

M1 Duquesne University stifled the Lakers' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Dukes' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as M1 Duquesne University finished with 16 penalty minutes.

M1 Duquesne University also had goals scored by Trombetta, Tristan Schimanski, and Eric Smith, who each put in one. More assists for M1 Duquesne University came via Arthur Birman, who had two and Zak Kindya, Sean Martin, and Thomas Diffendal, who contributed one each.

M1 Oswego State University was helped by Connor Hoyng, who tallied one goal. Hoyng scored 11:03 into the first period to make the score 2-1 M1 Oswego State University. Oscar Marchi assisted on the tally. M1 Oswego State University additionally got points from Michael Layman, who also registered one goal and one assist. M1 Oswego State University also got a goal from Kegan Storjohann as well. In addition, M1 Oswego State University received assists from Nicolas Epping, who had one and Nick Winters, who had two.

The Dukes registered one goal on three power play opportunities. The Lakers incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
