North Carolina State University outlasts Elon University, 4-2Hillsborough Sportsplex Sat, Sep 26, 2015 The North Carolina State University Wolfpack gutted out a close 4-2 win against the Elon University Phoenix. North Carolina State University gained the winning advantage on a goal by Will Biberdorf 3:58 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer. Sam Banasiewicz was all over the ice for the Wolfpack, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Banasiewicz scored the first of his two goals at 13:30 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Elon University. Biberdorf picked up the assist. Banasiewicz's next tally made the score 2-2 with 2:12 left in the second period. Elon University's power play was ineffective against North Carolina State University's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded. The Wolfpack stifled the Phoenix's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. North Carolina State University kept Elon University's goalie busy throughout the game, and Garrett Johnston made 41 saves on 45 shots. North Carolina State University also got points from Biberdorf, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Danny Fredenburg also scored for North Carolina State University. Other players who recorded assists for North Carolina State University were Garrett Sunda and Addison Oliver, who contributed one each. The Phoenix's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on eight North Carolina State University power plays. Elon University could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 16 minutes in penalties during the game. The Phoenix were helped by Matt Williamson, who registered one goal. Williamson scored 58 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Elon University. Sam Sarath provided the assist. Elon University additionally got points from Sarath, who also registered one goal and one assist. Brian Nelson recorded 28 saves for the Wolfpack. North Carolina State University incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
