Springfield takes care of Lower Merion early, wins 10-1Aston Ice Works Fri, Feb 19, 2016 Springfield jumped out to a four-point advantage by the end of the first period and beat Lower Merion, 10-1. Springfield got the win with help from a great game by Tyler Riddle, who had five goals and two assists. Riddle notched his first tally 2:52 into the first period. He then added goals at 12:49 into the first, at 7:23 into the second, at 10:20 into the second, and at 1:24 into the third. Springfield was led by goalie Michael Gerzabek, who finished with 26 saves while allowing one goal. Gerzabek managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.71 prior to the game. Springfield forced Lower Merion's goaltenders to work without much rest, taking 42 shots and forcing 32 saves. Luca Saleh made 27 stops and Justin Greenspan made five. Springfield's goal total was higher than its season average. Springfield has scored at the pace of 7.6 goals per game during the current campaign. Springfield additionally got points from Kevin Brown, who also racked up one goal and four assists and Joseph Cavaliere, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Springfield included James Spence, Jacob Zappo, and Mark Rodgers, who each put in one. In addition, Springfield received assists from Nick Farese, who had two and Jim Schickling, Nick Medwid, Aidan Smith, and Dan Barrett, who contributed one each. Lower Merion excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. Springfield incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Lower Merion incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with two minors.
