Penncrest and Marple Newtown skate to 2-2 tie

Penncrest and Marple Newtown could not settle their match and fought to a 2-2 tie.

Penncrest put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Marple Newtown to score on any of its seven power plays. Penncrest was held below its usual level of production. Penncrest averages 4.4 goals per game. Penncrest could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 16 minutes in penalties during the game.

Penncrest was helped by Matthew Dougherty, who finished with one goal. Dougherty scored 10:26 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Jack Fletcher picked up the assist. Penncrest additionally got points from Fletcher, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. In addition, Penncrest received assists from Kieran Casey, Austin Mazzulo, and Ryan Dumont, who each chipped in one.

Marple Newtown's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Marple Newtown finished with 34 penalty minutes.

Marple Newtown was helped by Matthew Merrone, who registered one goal. Merrone scored short handed 2:51 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Marple Newtown. Marple Newtown found itself down a man on Sean Devlin's hooking. Marple Newtown also got a goal from Ian Malarick as well. Other players who recorded assists for Marple Newtown were Anthony Giacobetti and Joseph Carafa, who contributed one each.

Mark Dumont made 13 saves for Penncrest on 15 shots. Penncrest registered one goal on six power play opportunities. Marple Newtown's Drew Moore stopped 28 shots out of the 30 that he faced.
