Avon Grove survives Oxford comeback, wins 9-8

Oxford tried its best to erase a five-goal deficit, but Avon Grove would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 9-8.

A goal by Brendan Harman put Avon Grove up 8-3 in the second period, but Oxford pulled to within one on Zachary Balla's tally 6:00 into the third period.

Avon Grove got the win on the strength of a great game by Harman, who had four goals and four assists. Harman's first goal came 15:51 into the first period. He then added goals at 7:28 into the second and at 12:45 into the third.

Oxford was unable to stop Avon Grove from sending pucks towards the net, and Avon Grove eventually piled up 43 shots on goal. Avon Grove outdid its season average for goals scored. This season, Avon Grove averages 5.5 goals per contest. Avon Grove struggled on the penalty kill, allowing Oxford to score two power play goals on three chances. The defensemen of Avon Grove were also effective in Oxford's zone, and came away with three goals.

Avon Grove also got points from Kelvin DeFeo, who also registered one goal and two assists, Ryan Hassiepen, who also grabbed two goals and two assists, and Jake Beck, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Matt Miller also scored for Avon Grove. More assists for Avon Grove came via Brendan Blackwelder, Brady Anderson, and George DiFrancesco, who each chipped in one.

Oxford surpassed its usual scoring output this season. Oxford averages 3.4 goals per game. Oxford's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in three goals.

Oxford was led by Zackery Mullen, who tallied four goals and two assists. Oxford additionally got points from Ethan Dreisbach, who also had two goals and three assists. Oxford also got a goal from Tyler Swick as well. Other players who recorded assists for Oxford were Connor Quigley and Alexander Wehner, who contributed one each.

Avon Grove's Cameron Faller stopped 11 shots out of the 19 that he faced. Avon Grove incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors and had no power play opportunities. Ryan Snowden rejected 34 shots on goal for Oxford.
