Penncrest survives Marple Newtown comeback, wins 5-3Ice Works Rink 3 Fri, Jan 08, 2016 Marple Newtown almost clawed its way back from a three-goal deficit, but Penncrest managed to pull out a 5-3 win in the end. Penncrest led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when Penncrest's Matthew Luccidi scored on the power play at 1:21 in the third period to put Penncrest up 4-1. Penncrest got the win thanks to a great game by Matthew Dougherty, who had two goals and one assist. Dougherty scored the first of his two goals at 15:30 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Penncrest. Dougherty's next tally made the score 5-3 Penncrest with 4:10 left in the third period. Declan Casey picked up the assist. Penncrest also got points from Jake Olds, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Ian McDougall also scored for Penncrest. In addition, Penncrest received assists from Dan Mundy, who had one and Kieran Casey, who had two. Marple Newtown struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as it finished the game with 26 penalty minutes for eight opposing power plays. Marple Newtown was helped by Jack Ventriglia, who registered one goal. Ventriglia scored 11:10 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Penncrest. Damon Osowski assisted on the tally. Others who scored for Marple Newtown included Ian Malarick and James Kelly, who scored one goal each. More assists for Marple Newtown came via Gabe Ceroli, Nick Hensel, and Anthony Giacobetti, who contributed one each. Penncrest's Mark Dumont stopped 12 shots out of the 15 that he faced. Penncrest incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Drew Moore rejected 20 shots on goal for Marple Newtown. Marple Newtown registered zero goals on one power play opportunities.
