Haverford High takes care of Marple Newtown early, wins 9-1

Marple Newtown fell behind early, and Haverford High kept piling on the points on the way to a 9-1 victory.

Haverford High got the win on the strength of a great game by Shane Moran, who had two goals and four assists. Moran scored the first of his two goals at 2:28 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Mitchell Estes provided the assist. Moran's next tally made the score 7-1 Haverford High with 17:51 left in the third period. Haverford High had gotten the advantage when Marple Newtown's Anthony Giacobetti was sent off for roughing. Kenny Kissinger picked up the assist.

Haverford High put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Marple Newtown to score on any of its three power plays. Marple Newtown was unable to stop Haverford High from sending pucks towards the net, and Haverford High eventually piled up 44 shots on goal. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

Haverford High additionally got points from Frankie McVeigh, who also registered two goals and one assist, Kissinger, who also finished with one goal and two assists, and Dante Gattone, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Haverford High also got a goal from Brendan Daly as well. In addition, Haverford High received assists from Henry DeVoe, who had three.

Marple Newtown did not challenge the opposing netminder, only getting 14 shots on net to force 13 saves. Marple Newtown could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 28 minutes in penalties during the game.

Marple Newtown was led by Matthew Merrone, who scored the team's only goal. Merrone scored 2:05 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Marple Newtown. Giacobetti assisted on the tally.

Tim Osifchok made 13 saves for Haverford High on 14 shots. Haverford High incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Drew Moore recorded 35 saves for Marple Newtown.
